Associate Professional Clinical Counselor

Tamar Cassell is an Associate Professional Clinical Counselor with several years of experience providing individual psychotherapy to adults and youth, as well as couples and group therapy. Tamar believes that all individuals have internal strengths and resources to support them in mental health recovery and can draw upon these resources to guide treatment. She has experience working with people impacted by depression, anxiety, Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), grief/loss, schizophrenia, and addiction. Tamar also has extensive experience working with the LGBTQ+ community and welcomes transgender individuals seeking gender therapy into her practice. In fact, Tamar welcomes people from all walks of life into her practice, and strongly believes that one’s identity should not be a barrier to receiving services.

Tamar further specializes in treating individuals impacted by trauma and utilizes a client-centered approach to work with her clients to help them heal from traumatic life events. Tamar is passionate about providing a safe space in therapy and believes this serves as a strong foundation to facilitate recovery. She integrates techniques from mindfulness-based interventions, Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy, and psychodynamic therapy to support her clients in grounding themselves, developing healthy relationships, and building insight into their past experiences.

Tamar received her bachelor’s degree in Psychology from American University, and master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from the University of San Diego. She has worked in both inpatient and outpatient mental health treatment centers, including psychiatric hospitals, Assertive Community Treatment programs (ACT), rape crisis centers, and residential domestic violence shelters. She completed her practicum at Center for Community Solutions and has worked as Clinical Team Lead at IMPACT.

Tamar believes in the delicate balance of self-care and enjoys surfing, reading, writing, and practicing yoga.

Sessions with Tamar are on a cash basis only, $90/session. If you need a sliding scale for financial reasons, please discuss this with Tamar during the intake process.
